CAREER AND BRANCHES IN PHYSICAL & HEALTH EDUCATION

A career can be defined as a job or profession which someone had been trained for. Example teaching, coaching etc.

It can also be defined as a job or profession in which a person is trained and employed for life. It is also a series of work or job one has until retirement.

HOW TO CHOOSE A CAREER

In selecting a career you should consider the following:-

a. Ones ability:- One should identify the areawhere he or she has high aptitudes or natural talent. For instance someone who is good are thinking and verbal, verbal reasoning, will be good as sport journalist.

b. Interest:- The student should be able to identify his or her area of interest.

c. Personal characteristics:- The type of person you are should be put into consideration where choosing a career a person who like helping people, calm and easy going will bebetter as a health care providerand teacher.

d. Value:-This is a deeply held beliefs that influence the way people think, feel and act. A person who has the value to assist others will do better as a health care provider.

e. Goal:- This has to do with person’s aims in life, whether to bea sport doctor, lawyer or engineer and study towards it.

Choosing career on physical and healtheducation

The following subjects are needed to pursue any area of interest in physical and healtheducation:-

a. English

b. Mathematics

c. Biology/Health science

d. Chemistry

e. Physics.

Branches or career opportunities in PHE:-

The career opportunities are grouped into two major area, they are:-

Physical Education Aspect

The following are branches of career opportunities in physical education:-

1. Physical Education: This deals with all aspects of human movements their movement activities are on land such as soccer, athletics in water such as swimming, in air such as gymnastics.

2. Sports Psychology:- This manages the behaviours of athletes, players and officials. They motivate athletes to perform better during competition.

3. Sports Administration:- This deals with planning and management of sporting activities policy, resources and employees in sports.

4. Sport Medicine:- This is concerned with diagnosis and treatment. It emphasizes recovery from illness, rehabilitation of athletes and prevention of diseases and accidents in sports.

5. Sports Marketing:- It is the branch that sells sports products and services to sports consumers. They persuade or convince people to sponsor a product like soccer or basketball tournament.

6. Sports Law:- This branch deals with the rights, and privileges of players, officials and organizers in sports.

7. Sports Engineering:- They deals with construction of sports facilities and equipment, they also maintain facilities and equipment.

8. Teaching and lecturing:- This branch is concerned with imparting knowledge, skills, good behavior and values in physical and health education.

9. Coaching:- This branch equips athletes and players with skills and techniques necessary to play particular game or sports.

10.  Sport Journalism or broadcasting:- This group gathers sports information, collates and deliver the report in the prints or electronic media to the public.

11.  Sports Sociology:- They focuses on sports and  society example, sports and family life, sports and politics, sports and the economy, sports and education etc.

12.  Recreation Management:- They deals with planning provision and management of amusement parks, and recreational centre, they also manage events facilities, equipment and people to bring about excitement and enjoyment.

In health education aspects, the branches or career opportunities are:-
