TOPIC:      TONES, SEMITONES, AND ENHARMONIC TONES

Specific Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

1.     Differentiate between semitones and tones clearly.

2.     Write enharmonic equivalent of notes properly.

SEMITONES:

A semitone is a shortest interval between two notes. Remember that an interval is a distance in pitch between two notes. From the illustration below, you will understand how semitones work. For example, semitone can be observed from a white note and its adjacent or closest black note. E.g, C and C sharp, D and D sharp etc. Movements from C to C# is a semitone, from D to D# is equally a semitone. There are only two natural (white notes) on the keyboard. They lie between B-C and E-f
