HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Human trafficking is the illegal recruiting movement and harbouring of human being by agents for financial gains.
It is also the illegal recruitment, habiting and transportation of persons from one state or country to another for a false purpose by agent for profit.
It is also defined as the trade using human beings to make money by forcing them into prostitution, begging or manual labour.
LEVELS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
There are two levels of human trafficking which are:-
1. National level of human/internal level:- This involves the movement of persons from country side to urban centres or from town to town within a country.
2. International level of human trafficking:- This is the movement of persons across the border of a country by agents. Examples moving people from Nigeria to Britain in Europe by agents.
VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
There are three victims of human trafficking they include:
1. Children:- These are persons between the ages of 6 and 17 years. They are given to traffickers because their families are poor, neglected or kidnapped and because they are orphans. The children are used as domestic servants, child soldiers, beggars and for cheap labour. While some are sexually exploited and sent for early marriage.
2. Women: These are females above the age of 18 years. They are trafficked beyond the boundaries of a country with promises of legitimate and lucrative jobs, good educations or better partner majority of their end up as sex workers and main servants.
3. Men as victims of human trafficking:- There are males above the age of 18 years who are taken beyondthe shores of any country for greener pasture or better education. They are mostly used in the farms, to do the meaning jobs, such as washing of dishes, refuse collection, homosexuality and cleaning or corpse and streets.
HEALTH IMPLICATIONS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
1. Infection of sexually transmitted disease.
2. Unwanted pregnancy
3. Emotional problem.
4. Poor medical attention
5. Death of victim.
6. Assault of victim.
7. Psychiatric problem.
8. Used for rituals.
SOLUTIONS TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING
1. Education should be made free, compulsory, available and accessibly to all children of school age from primary to secondary school level.
2. Employment opportunity should be created.
3. Birth control measures should be adopted in the society.
4. Political, economic and social stability should be encouraged in the society.
5. There should be proper rehabilitation, and settlement of returned victims.
6. A traffickers found guilty of human trafficking should forfeit all assets traceable to the proceed of crime.
7. Government agencies should be established and empowered to persecute those involved in child trafficking.
8. Strict handling of children should be banned.
