Specific Objectives: By the end of this lesson, the students should be able to (1) Define painting (2) State the use of colour in Art making (3) Explain and mention cool and warm colours.
Definition of Painting: It is a process by which colour is applied to a drawing or flat surface to create a picture.
Uses of colour in Art making:
1. Artists use colours to differentiate eg warm from cold
2. Artists use colours to give emphasis on object and project its form
3. Artists use colour to make works special eg wooden cup from silver cup.
4. Artists use colour to beautify surface
5. Artists use colours to create fueling in a work of Art eg ice block
6. Colour could be used as an identification mark eg blue-for apprentice nurse
7. Artists could combine colours to flatten and compress space.
8. Colour is used to express ideas
9. Artist use colour to suggest Solidity on a flat surface
10. Artist use colour to create an illusion of depth or perspective on a flat surface.
Cool and warm colours:
Cool Colours: Are colours that remind us of cool things.
Warm colours: Are colours that give a feeling of warmth on an art work.
Cool and warm colours are found opposite each other on the colour wheel.
Cool colours are: Blue, green and violet
Warm colours are: Yellow, orange and red
