Family needs are those essential things that a family (or the individual) cannot do without. They are very important to the physical, emotional and social well-being of the family.

Family goals are defined as tangible things, objects, ends or purposes that a family desires and sets to attain at a given period of time. They are desires that families are willing to work for.

1st term WEEK 8: FAMILY GOALS

                    TOPIC:   FAMILY GOALS

      Family goals are defined as tangible things, objects, ends or purposes that a family desires and sets to attain at a given period of time. They are desires that families are willing to work for.

           They serve as specific ways of realizing the values one holds. As each goal is achieved, new goals emerge, leading to higher goals in one's life.

                         WANTS

A want is a wish or desire for some thing which is not necessarily required for the health or well-being of the individual or family. Examples extra clothes, different types of cars for family use.

TOPIC:FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS AND VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHT

A citizen is someone who is a member of a community such as a city or town, state or country. Every citizen has a set of rights and privileges provided by the country of which he is a citizen and it is called fundamental human right.

1st term WEEK 4: HIV /AIDS

TOPIC: HIV /AIDS

HIV means Human Immunodeficiency Virus

AIDS means Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

1. AIDS is caused by a virus called human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

2. When this virus enter the body, it destroys the cells of the immune system.

3. Consequently, the body becomes weak and the body's defence system can no longer defend the body from sickness.

1st term WEEK 3: SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI)

                  TOPIC: SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI)

Sexually transmitted infections means any illness or disease that spread from one person to another through sexual contact. Some are curable while some are not.

                 Types of Sexually Transmitted Infections

They include syphilis, gonorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, HIV/ AIDS, genital herpes, genital warts, trichomoniasis, human papilloma virus, hepatitis B.

           Causes of Sexually Transmitted Infections

1st term WEEK 2:ADOLESCENCE

TOPIC:ADOLESCENCE

Adolescence is the period in every person's life that lies between the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It is a period of time a person mature and moves from childhood to adulthood.

          Adolescent

An adolescent is a boy or a girl that is passing through the adolescence period.

                       CHARACTERISTICS OF ADOLESCENTS

The characteristic changes that are common in boys and girls at the adolescent stage include:

1st term WEEK 1:PUBERTY

                    TOPIC: PUBERTY

This is a stage or period which marks the beginning of  Sexual development and maturation in boys and girls. It is an interval through which the child transit from childhood to adulthood. On the average, girls begin puberty ta ages 10- 11, while boys at age 11-12. Girls usually complete puberty by ages 15- 17 while boys complete theirs by 16- 17.

SIGNS OF PUBERTY

       Certain changes occur in the body of  girls and boys when they reach puberty. These sign or changes differ between boys and girls

WEEK 9: DRUG ABUSE (3rd term ends)

               TOPIC: DRUG ABUSE

    Drug is a substance intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease pharmacopoeia.

Drug is a chemical that has medical performance, enhancing or intoxicating effects when Introduced into the body of man.

  DRUG ABUSE          

This is the habitual use of drugs to alter one's mood, emotion or state of consciousness.  

WEEK 8: HARMFUL SUBSTANCES THAT SHOULD NOT BE CONSUMED

TOPIC:HARMFUL SUBSTANCES THAT SHOULD NOT BE CONSUMED

These are usually foods we eat that have in them substances or organisms that are harmful to the body. They include:

1. Banned food additives such as potassium bromate; artificial food colours such as yellow #5, Blue #2 and Red #40; use of arsenic in chicken feed to make the meat fresher. They are found to contain substances that are toxic to the body.
