SAFETY AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION

Safety is defined as the condition of being safe or free from danger, injuries or damages, it can also be defined as freedom from dangerous accidents.

Safety Education:- This is defined as the teaching and learning about safety precautions in order to avoid or minimize the effects of danger, it involves repairing faulty equipments and appliances that might cause accidents, where there is a destroyed structure, incomplete sock-away pit, bad roads etc you can put inscription as danger on road and many innocent lives will be saved.

Accident:-This can be defined as something that happens without planning and it can cause injuries, damage to property or life. Accident means an act or event caused suddenly by man or nature to produce unpleasant effects such as injuries, death and damage to properties.

CLASSIFICATIONS OF ACCIDENTS

Accident can be classified according to places of occurrence. As follows

1.   Home or domestic accident

2.   Occupational or industrial accident

3.   School or recreational accident

4.   Road or traffic accident.

1.  HOME ACCIDENT:

These are accidents that occur where we live, it is also known as domestic accident: It occurs more commonly in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, sitting room, and around the compound. These accident includes burns and scalds, electric shocks, poisons from drugs, cuts, throwing stones and sticks. Etc.

PREVENTIONS OF HOME ACCIDENT

1.   Avoid careless use of matches and lightens.

2.   Knives should be stored properly.

3.   Avoid crowd in the kitchen.

4.   Floors should be dry always.

5.   Bathroom with a bath tub should have a rubber mat inside to prevent slipping and falling.

6.   Use bath tub with grab rails.

7.   Run – off the water in the bath tub after use to avoid children drowning in it.

8.   Never touch electrical appliances with wet or damp hands

9.   Always keep soap in the soap holder.

10.  There should be proper lighting and floor should be washed and moped.

11.  Arrange furniture properly to allow free movement.

2.  SCHOOL ACCIDENT

These accident occurs in schools especially in the classroom, laboratory, playground school farm, gymnasium and swimming pool. These accidents includes the following.

·        Falls

·        Collision in the walk way

·        Drowning in the pool

·        Cuts in the farm

·        Burns in the laboratory e.t.c.

PREVENTIONS OF SCHOOL ACCIDENT

The followings are some ways of preventing school accidents.

1.   School building should be maintained regularly.

2.   School equipment should be well attended to.

3.   There should be safety regulations and practice at school.

4.   Schools should have fire extinguishers.

5.   There should be regular safety training programme for students, workers and teachers.

3.  INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT

Industrial, workshop or occupational accident are accident that occurs where we work such as factories, industries construction site, workshop, offices, miners. Etc.

It depends on the kind of work done and it includes electrocution, burns, falls, cuts, landslides etc.

PREVENTIONS OF OCCUPATION ACCIDENT

1.   Avoidance of haste, confusion and procrastination.

2.   Safety education to develop positive habits and attitudes in the working places.

3.   Repairing of machines or equipment when faulty.

4.   Assigning of tasks in industries according to competences and physical capabilities.

5.   Development of skills for operating tools and equipment.

CAUSES OF ACCIDENT

The following are some of the causes of accident.

1.   Carelessness 2. Lack of skills 3. Fatigue 4. Inability to control emotions 5. Unsafe environment.
