Specific objective: student should at the end of lesson be able

(1)             To know how to determine or know a relative minor keys

(2)             Mention all forms of minor scale

(3)             Construct one form of the minor scales

1.     Natural Minor Scale: This consist of eight notes built upon the 6^th degree with the semitones occurring between 2^nd and 3^rd and 6^th, 7^th degree in ascending and descending order.

(1)             Harmonic minor: This consist of eight notes with the semitones in 2^nd, 3^rd , 6^th, 7^th and 8^th degree in ascending and descending order

It is important to note that like natural minor scale, harmonic minor maintains the same scale pattern both in ascending and descending order.

(2)             Melodic Minor Scale: This consists of eight notes built upon the 6^th degree, with the semitones occurring between the 2^nd, 3^rd, 7^th and 8^th degree in ascending then in descending between the 6^th, 5^th, 3^rd and 2^nd degree. The 6^th and 7^th descending are raised to a semitone in ascending and lowered in descending.

(3)             Chromatic Scales:  This is scale built and moves in semitones only. It consists of thirteen notes built entirely on semitones.

(4)             Pentatonic Scale: This is a scale of five tones arrangement, no semitones.
